Sister Vassa, a US-born Orthodox theologian fluent in four languages, was defrocked after publicly condemning Patriarch Kirill's blessing of Russia's war on Ukraine. She has since joined the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and kept criticizing Kirill to hundreds of thousands of followers online, using her own expertise in canon law to argue the church's leadership overstepped it.
