The Most Sampled Loop in Music History
2019 · 4 min · English
A six-second drum solo recorded in 1969 by a little-known Washington, D.C. soul group, The Winstons, sat buried in archives until hip-hop compiler Breakbeat Lou put it on a bootleg breakbeat collection. From there the Amen break turned up in tracks by Skrillex, David Bowie and Salt-N-Pepa, becoming, by most counts, the most reused six seconds in recorded music.
