Birdsong: the dying whistled language of the Hmong people in northern Laos

In Long Lan village in northern Laos, the film follows three Hmong villagers who still practice a whistled form of their language, one that blurs the line between speech and music, as urbanisation and modern technology speed its disappearance. It moves between a demonstration of the whistling itself and the makers of the qeej, the instrument built to carry it.
