A Japanese art teacher in colonial Korea saves an independence fighter from arrest and falls for the court dancer the fighter introduces him to, though her parents were killed by Japanese soldiers and his own father helped put down the March 1st uprising. Conscripted years later, he jumps the troop train to beg her forgiveness and reaches her door only to find it will not open.
