In a northern village the year after liberation, a landlord's son watches the tenant farmer who managed his family's land become a Party man and lead the purge against him, while the farmer's daughter keeps standing by him at real cost to herself. Yu Hyun-mok films the land seizures, the people's trial and the fight in the woods that settles it as a slow squeeze rather than a set of speeches.
