장군의 수염(1968) The General's Mustache(Janggun-ui Suyeom) (1968)

Two detectives working a photographer's unexplained death interview his landlord, his mother, a novelist and the dancer who left him, assembling a portrait of a man who never fitted the world he was in. Lee Seong-gu treats the death less as a case to close than a life to reconstruct, and the unfinished novel at its centre keeps rewriting what the interviews mean.
