A young monk still haunted by the woman he left behind falls in with an older, unruly one who drinks, breaks his vows and insists the Buddha is not confined to the prayer hall. When the older man freezes to death sitting in the lotus position, the younger cremates him, delivers his few belongings to the people he could not let go of, and sets out walking with fewer answers than he started with.
